Parenting

I believe that upon the news of pregnancy, every expectant mother and father should be required to take state mandated course on parenting. After all parenting is the most challenging task known to man and the quality of the parenting we do affects the very core of our nation. Parenting is difficult even for the most dedicated mother or father. If you throw in other factors such as teen mothers, single mothers or fathers, marital problems, and all the other many problems our society faces you have a recipe for disaster. I believe we should even take it a step further. We should start classes at the middle school level on parenting. Not just pregnancy prevention but in the event you are ever a parent and which most of us will be at some point you will have some very good information to take with you on the path. I’m not talking about caring for the physical needs of the child. That is pretty simple and most people will do that. I am talking about caring for the emotional needs of the child. Like, discipline, self esteem, love, all of the things that create good humans, and with the lack of, creates seriously messed up humans. I think most people want to be good parents they just don’t know how. They parent the way they were parented or they just wing it. There is no real plan in place for how to deal with the myriad of situations parents face. Let’s face it, we have the information on what works and what doesn’t why don’t we shove it down peoples throats. Think of the impact this would have on society over time. Children that aren’t so screwed up- with morals, values, discipline. Where might our nation go? The future of our nation could change if we all just learned how to be a parent!
